2. As pond water passes through a series of brushes, its the bristles that filter out suspended solids, while still providing ample surface area where the nitrifying bacteria can colonize and thrive.

3. Cleaning of the filter brushes is a simply done by removing them from the filter and shaking them out.

4. Remember not to use tap water to rinse them, as this will severely to reduce or eliminate the beneficial bacteria which is growing on the brush.

One is 100cm by l meter length, one is 100mm by 4 meter length.

Filter brushes are the perfect solution as a first stage in a multi-bay filtration system as they will effectively trap most debris and they are very easily cleaned by simply rinsing in a bucket of pond water.

They will also become part of the biological filter as filter bacteria colonise them so please do not be tempted to wash them in fresh tap water as the chlorine will kill a large proportion of these bacteria.
